Your ‘about page’ is usually the second stop people take when landing on your website. It’s the page for you to truly be open, authentic and explain what you do and allow your personality to ooze from each paragraph. For most businesses, it’s the place where a reader will decide if they want to work with you or not. Regardless of your trade or skills.
I know that when I am searching for practitioners, coaches, hey even beauty products I like to know who I am actually buying from and if they align with me. We are all so unique and I can tell you that if you speak to your ideal client from a place of authenticity you will be more inviting and they will be more open to your products.
Let’s jump in
How to create an About Page that Rocks
Talk to your ideal client
When you are writing your words talk to your favourite client or customer, it helps you to relax and be at ease with writing. The point of doing this is to share with them what you do and in words that they understand. Your about page is a great way to educate them on what it is you actually do and how you can serve them.
Allow yourself to shine through each of your words. Being true to yourself and what you do and how you do it will help people decided if they want to work with you or buy a product from you. You may like to share your beliefs and philosophies about your work. Your potential client needs to know the real you.
Share your story with your readers, how and why you are doing what you are doing. Let your passion open up and put it on display, show your true colours and reveal them so that people get to know the Real You. when your personality is seen through your words and along with a photo of yourself. Readers can get a better understanding of what you look like and how you talk or behave.
What can you do that sets you apart that your readers would love to know? Why can you help them and why is working with you just so darn good?
This is so important, it reassures your reader of your skills, and what makes working with you so incredible. Those little quirks and skill set you have are your best ammo, flaunt them like crazy. This is what is going to attract you more of the clients you love.
Call To Action
Having a clear call to action on your about page of where you want your ideal client to go next is super important, it gives them a place to go. Pointing them towards how to work with you, a product or even a few of your favourite blog posts.
This call to action is a great way for you to keep your ideal reader learning more about you and what you offer, keeping them on your website longer. It may come as simply as a button at the end of the post, a small banner or even a text link.
Here are the questions you need to ask yourself when writing your about page:
- Who are you?
- Why are you unique?
- What is it that you do?
- Why do you do it?
- Who do you work with?
- How do you serve your clients & customers?
- What do you want your reader to do next once they have read this information?
